Tom Snels | Head of Unit for Schengen Governance

Tom Snels holds master degrees from the K.U. Leuven, the College of Europe, Columbia Law School and INSEAD. Before joining the European Commission, he practiced competition law as an attorney admitted to the bars of New York and Brussels and served as référendaire in the chambers of a Judge at the European Court of Justice. Following responsibilities in the Directorates-General for Competition and Internal Market and Services, Tom joined the Secretariat-General of the Commission in 2014 where he was in the service of three Secretaries-General as Assistant. In the first von der Leyen Commission, he was deputy Head of Cabinet of the Commissioner for Home Affairs. Tom Snels was appointed Head of Unit for Schengen Governance in 2022.
